On July 26th, 2024, Twitter user andwithinme (henceforth “Michael”) posted a picture of Twitter artist Idolmantises (AKA: Quill) profile with the caption “just gonna say that I don’t like this artist and I have good reason not to”[sic]. With only a little over 400 followers, this generally would not be a problem, as those with a small number of followers generally don’t get that much attention to their tweets and they fade of into obscurity forever. For Michael, nevertheless, this was not the case. After one of their followers asked “Whatd theyndo”[sic], Michael shared a screenshot of what looked like a Notes App list of reasons why they disliked Idolmantises, these reasons including “sexualization of a hijab,” “rape porn,” “defending somnophilia,” and others along the same lines. When pressed for details, the 17 year old Michael told his followers that he would not be posting the most egregious “proof” because he was a minor, allowing imagination to run wild.
Aptly, Michael’s profile picture depicts a man without a face dressed as a priest and his display name features two crosses, merging well with his replies to some of those who interacted with his call out post, one in particular began by user Splurgiess who stated, “They draw porn that’s enough of a reason not to like them” with Michael replying, “yeah ur right.” Michael’s other responses to those commenting include “you can hate them for being a gooner. its always morally correct” and “they suck so much. I really despise gooner artists”. Later on one of the repliers states that they’re uncomfortable with the trope of “angel x demon” and Michael replies that he’s Christian and he “gets the trope” and that it’s “cute when done right” but this is because, he explains, that he is something called “angelkin” and his “jf” is “demonkin”. Of course, he goes on: “when Quill [Idolmantises] does it its EGREGIOUS”. Now, if any readers understand what a “-kin” is, being “angelkin” would essentially boil down to the idea that they fantasize that they have some kind of body or soul relation to an angel, whether that means they’re an angel in human form or they have “shards” of angel soul inside them—or any number of other culty childish nonsense that some poor mentally ill homeless man with a Bible might tell you on a street corner in Baltimore.
Predictably, our archangelkin Michael has managed to have at least two of his tweets marked with community notes, pointing out that the artist in question has never drawn rape and that the “hijab” that was allegedly sexualized was actually an archer’s hood. The first note goes on to explain, “It should also be noted that user andwithinme is a minor, who is willingly seeking out and engaging with explicit NSFW content.”[sic] The other note is on their first tweet of the call out thread and states quite succinctly, “OP is a serial harasser who has made multiple false allegations against other users before, once almost driving a 15 year old to suicide after continuously lying and making false accusations against them. […]” The latter note is based off another user, e102governor, having retained screenshot evidence of the existence of a harassment campaign around April 2024 targeted toward 15 year old user owlposting. e102governor also pointed out that this was not due to owlposting having committed any grievous sins but merely having followed an account that Michael believed was morally corrupt. When faced with the fact that owlposting had likely self-harmed due to the stress of the pile-on, Michael dismissed it, claiming that they “most likely” posted such an admission to illicit pity, a notion that was soundly denounced by many users as callous and inappropriate. In their original callout thread, they accused owlposting of liking “pedophilic content” but seemed to care more about the wellbeing of drawings than the real child they had driven to self harm.
So what makes this a curious case? It’s fairly clear here that our angelkin, going around and making call out posts for people he thinks are sinning on the internet (oh no, not soft core porn, *dramatic scandalized gasp*) is a fuckwit of the highest order and is clearly in the wrong here according to the ideological bias of this substack. Nevertheless, so is Idolmantises. As the call out against Quill gained steam and repressed little baby Evangelicals started going to bat for censorship and carrying water for fascists, their target came out and stated that they had never drawn rape as that is “disgusting,” going along with other statements they’ve made about other fictional kinks in the past. In June of 2021, they made the tired attempt to clap back at someone who was confused how they could be hypocritical enough to find bugs sexy but denounce other fictional fetishes such as shotacon or lolicon, asking if that was the only argument people had (it’s not, it’s really just mocking you, Quill, you’re into bugs, which hey I get it, but that’s freak shit). On the 27th of 2024, Quill spoke about the allegations of having drawn a “rape comic” stating that characters gave their consent multiple times before engaging in somnophilia, a kink in which one person has sex with the other while they are asleep which, as is pointed out by Twitter user null_backdoorho, is very clearly under the rape kink umbrella, classified as “CNC” or “Consensual Non-Consent.”

Despite having a very clear somno fetish, a kink infamous for its comedic potential, Quill has criticized popular cartoon Hazbin Hotel for its depiction of sexual assault, mentioning that they themselves are a victim and that they dislike that assault was not given enough respect within the show. Much like a foot fetish, somno is often derided as being particularly unserious, though unlike a foot fetish, it’s usually for its close association with not only rape but necrophilia (the sexual attraction to corpses). As a personal aside, if you can’t laugh at something, you’re probably not ready to be engaging in good faith with media that handles that subject since you can’t be certain they’re going to remain within the boundaries of your emotional limitations and that’s not their job anyway. They don’t know you and they don’t owe you. In fact, even your own audience as a creator doesn’t owe you anything and plenty of them probably—correctly—identify somnophilia as a subdivision of rape kink…a completely normal kink to have especially if you’re a victim yourself. It was also pointed out by Twitter user VTribbean under null_backdoorho’s thread on the subject that within the comic, a character who is performing the “awake” role in the somnophilia is depicted clearly violating implicit boundaries while in control of the situation and the other person. In the same conversation null points out that “they go ass to vagina” which is also implied to be an egregious violation of boundaries (um, bacterial infection much?)…and if we’re following along on this, we can correctly categorize that kind of interaction between characters as rape.
After Quill came out and outright denounced rape kink or having drawn a rape comic, those who have remained keyed into their stance in the past against degenerate art considered a call out against them as a matter of course. After all, no anti gets away with being pure blooded for long if they manage to piss off the stricter, more puritanical sects of Antism (Antiism? I dunno, I don’t like the two i’s). In a statement Quill proclaimed that “Some people are telling me I deserved the harassment I got because ‘this was the audience I cultivated’.” and “Disliking problematic fiction does not mean I align myself with people who behave like this”. Most of the anti-censorship camp has given each other the knowing glance from across the room at this claim, knowing for certain that of course they don’t support people who behave like this, because when the people they agree with do it, it’s just criticism, not harassment. null, whose tweet Quill was referencing may really have been onto something, putting this all together well in one tweet: “Seeing an artist who keep pedojacketing ‘problematic’ artists come under fire for drawing somnophilia is so fascinating. […]” Notably, this tweet which is clearly that which Quill referenced does not at all outright suggest that Quill “deserved” anything, though Schadenfreude might be in the subtext. Consider it in the straight up text in this substack.
null is right, after all. It is fascinating to watch someone suddenly realize that they’re in the middle of the puritan food chain and be completely unable to admit that what they like might be considered problematic by those who’ve been sucked deeper into the cult than they are. It’s sort of like how MAGA Q-Anon cultists have decided that run-of-the-mill Republicans are Democrat shills and sell-outs to the demon cabal of child-eaters. I suppose Quill fancies themselves a Romney Republican of antism. Won’t save you, Quill. None of it will save you. Pick a camp. Porn or purity. Right now you’re pretty firmly in the porn camp according to the baby Evangelicals.
